Drywall

Drywall is made from gypsum, sand and water pressed between sheets of heavy paper. It is used to construct walls and ceilings. Drywall can complement any decor because it can be finished using a number of techniques and textures. Drywall installation occurs in two phases. First, the sheets of drywall are attached to the wall framing. Each sheet is then cut to fit and butted together to form a tight and even surface. After it is hung, it must be finished to create the desired texture or color on the surface. Finishes cover each joint with tape and drywall 'mud'. The seams are sanded until the entire wall or ceiling appears to be one seamless surface, then your choice of color of paint is applied if a smooth wall is the style you seek.

Wood

Plaster's ingredients have evolved from lime, sand and marble dust to 'synthetic plaster' often consisting of acrylic based plaster and water based waxes. It has been a timeless wall finish that looks magnificent and improves as it ages. Plaster today can be very smooth or rough and 'crumbly' looking. Plaster finishes have become one of the most popular trends available in many colors.

Textures

Texturizing is the art of creating a specific design or faux cover. Texturing a wall is another decorating option that a lot of people forget to consider. Texturing can make a bold dramatic statement, turning a plain wall into a striking part of the overall design. Before choosing a textured finish, you need to consider which textures will make the wall harder to keep clean. Sometimes it can be difficult to repair a textured finish and match it to the rest of the wall if it becomes damaged. To change the look of a textured wall, you must cover the entire surface with joint compound to resurface the wall, then sand to create a smooth finish.
